Brass Band in concertThe Illinois Brass Band will be in concert at 8 p.m. Friday, May 14, at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center. The band will play popular selections from New York's West Side to Broadway, Sinatra to Williams, and Bernstein to Webb. The Lincolnshire-based, 30-member British style brass band is in its 19th year and is a six-time North American Brass Band Association national champion. Tickets, which are available at the door, cost $10 for adults, $7 seniors and $5 students and children. No reservations required.Vernon Hills police open houseThe Vernon Hills Police Department will host its 13th annual open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 16 at its facility, 754 and 740 Lakeview Parkway, a block south of Route 60. The date coincides with National Police Week. Visitors will see the inner workings, equipment and facilities and will be able to view the jail area, firearms range and 911 communications room, as well as other parts of the building. Information about the Citizen's Police Academy, SWAT team and other programs will be available. This year, guests will have complete identification kits made for their children, courtesy of the Illinois Masons' Child ID Program (ChIP).
