Oil co. assurances now ring hollow

Nothing is without risk. Luckily, with this latest and devastating oil spill in the Gulf, we have a clearer picture of the risks and costs involved in further exploration and development of offshore oil and gas.

President Obama was correct to halt further leasing until we can incorporate what we've learned into our nation's energy policy. Assurances from oil companies that technology has advanced so that we have nothing to fear from offshore production now ring hollow.
