Media bent on discrediting Pope

Fence Post writer Joe Schrantz attempted to refute the seven reasons I gave for the mainstream press paying special attention to the Pope and Catholic problems with sexual abuse of children. He needs to understand that a denial does not constitute a rebuttal.

A counter-argument exposing illogic and false statements constitutes a rebuttal, which he has failed to produce. The writers of the original article made the claim that the Vatican has a communications problem. They offered no supporting evidence. They just stated an opinion as a fact. Does Joe approve of such journalism?

Certainly, media outlets friendly to the Pope and Catholicism do exist. But these do not dominate the public sources of information. I offer as an example of mainstream media The New York Times. Writing in The Wall Street Journal ("The Pope and The New York Times," April 6), William McGurn showed how a story gave the false impression that a child-molesting priest went unpunished for his behavior. Much information exists about this story, which the mainstream media has not bothered to report.

The Vatican stands as about the only significant obstacle to the political agenda of the mainstream media, which includes the normalization of abortion and homosexuality. Of course, the media will do whatever it takes to undermine the Pope's authority.
