Why no cleanup at Oak Meadow?

It appears as though the DuPage Forest Preserve Commission is asleep at the wheel. In February 2009, a lightning strike touched off a severe fire at the Oak Meadows Golf Club in Addison, a property that is owned and operated by the forest preserve district.

Despite the intervening fourteen months, the clubhouse remains a burned out hulk, and continues to be a safety hazard and an eyesore. One wonders what the commission plans to do to remedy the situation more than 400 days after the event. It is interesting to contrast the ruin at the golf course with the fire that damaged the Briar Glen Elementary School in Wheaton in July 2008.

The damage to this school was extensive, but the school district was able to effect repairs by that August, and school opened on schedule despite the devastation. In my opinion, members of the forest preserve board could have shown the same type of leadership as the school district did when they had to deal with the damage at Briar Glen.
