West Chicago man charged in St. Charles burglaries

A 35-year-old West Chicago man has been charged in connection with a recent spate of vehicle burglaries outside a St. Charles fitness center, police announced Thursday.

Daniel Kellogg was arrested Wednesday after authorities found a credit card reader, credit card receipts and a stolen South Barrington police badge during a search of his apartment on the 500 block of Carriage Drive, police said. He was charged with five counts of burglary, a Class 2 felony.

Police said Kellogg burglarized five vehicles parked at XSport Fitness, 238 N. Randall Road, between March 31 and April 2, after swiping the keys to the vehicles from a basket at the business's front desk.

Among the stolen property were credit cards that Kellogg later used to charge amounts ranging from $1,600 to $2,100 to an unidentified business he owned, police said. Similar incidents reported at XSport Fitness locations in Naperville and South Barrington remain under investigation.

Kellogg, who also was being sought on an outstanding theft warrant in Lake County, was being held in the Kane County jail Thursday with bond set at $60,000. He needs to pay $6,000 to be released.

His next court date is May 13.
