Strike up the band, Mt. Prospect: DeWyze stays on 'American Idol'

Mount Prospect rocker Lee DeWyze is only two weeks away from getting a hometown celebration after Wednesday's vote on "American Idol."

DeWyze, Aaron Kelly and Crystal Bowersox were all told they were safe halfway into the show, leaving Michael Lynche, Casey James and Siobhan Magnus to sweat out their futures for the remainder of the hour.

In the end, Magnus was sent packing while James was sent back to the "Idol" group with a surprised look on his face.

"I did my best," said Magnus, who dedicated her "Idol" time to her little sisters. "I hope I was able to show them what we're all capable of."

Siobhan sang "Any Man of Mine" on Tuesday and once again ended the performance with her trademark screech. Simon likened it to something you'd hear during childbirth.

So far, DeWyze and his "aw shucks" grin have yet to appear in the bottom three. In the past few weeks, he's emerged as one of the season's front-runners, and was given plenty of screen time on Wednesday.

Next week, Harry Connick Jr. will mentor the group through Frank Sinatra songs on Tuesday before the group is voted down to four contestants on Wednesday.

If DeWyze makes it to the top three, he'll return to Mount Prospect for a hometown celebration in mid-May.

"American Idol" also released their tour dates this week. DeWyze and the rest of the Idol Top 10 contestants will return to the United Center on Aug. 30 for a concert. The group will also play at Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 2.

Tickets go on sale in May.
