Hunter, Streamwood finish off sweep of Bartlett
The Bartlett baseball team had trouble fielding and throwing the ball Tuesday.
Streamwood pitcher Blake Hunter made sure the Hawks had difficulties hitting it too.
Hunter threw a 1-hitter and struck out eight in the Sabres' 10-0 five-inning Upstate Eight Conference victory in Bartlett.
"My fastball had a lot of zip," Hunter said. "I was relying on my fastball with the wind blowing in. I was throwing a little harder."
The Sabres (12-6, 6-3) swept the two-game series and have won three straight games. The Hawks (6-12, 2-10) lost their 10th consecutive game.
Streamwood scored once in the second on a run-scoring fielder's choice from Josh Harris. Then the Bartlett defense began to struggle.
The Hawks committed 3 errors in a two-run third inning for Streamwood. They then had 4 errors in a six-run fourth inning. The Sabres' Mike Diebold had a two-run single in the fourth. Richie Gorski and Dylan Noncek also had an RBI in the inning.
Gorski scored in the fifth on another throwing error from the Hawks.
"Sometimes you have to take care of business yourself. Sometimes you have to take charity," Sabres coach Steve Diversey said.
Hunter (5-0) allowed a two-out single to Greg Partyka in the bottom of the first for the only Hawks hit. Partyka also reached on a two-base error in the fourth. The only other runner for Bartlett was when Tyler Farina reached after striking out in the third on a wild pitch.
The Hawks committed 8 errors, leading to 6 unearned runs.
"Mental wasn't there. Physical wasn't there. We just showed up to the field today," said Bartlett coach Russ Lorenz, who watched the game from the press box while serving a one-game suspension for being thrown out of a game last week.
Matt DiCianni (2-4) suffered the loss, going three-plus innings, allowing 5 hits and 8 runs, four earned.
