Elgin's finest to work it on charity runway
New Police Chief Jeffrey Swoboda, along with his wife Laura and officers Katy Potts and Eric Echevarria, will take a stroll on the catwalk for charity.
The show will be held Friday at the Grand Victoria Riverboat Casino.
Other models include Karen Beyer Executive Director of the Ecker Mental Health Center, Denise Habun, executive director of the Hanover Township Mental Health Board, Dundee Township Supervisor Sue Harney, and Ruth Munson, Elgin's former state representative who is running to retrieve her seat.
There will be 20 models in all showing off the latest in clothes and accessories from Cabela's, Gus's Tailor Shop in Elgin, Romantica's boutique in West Dundee, Maurice's, a women's clothing store in Algonquin and Funky Things, a woman's accessories store in Algonquin.
Local socialite Betty Brown will provide commentary as the models sashay down the runway.
As well, Kevin Roy from ABC 7 News will be a special guest.
The fashion show benefits the Family Services Association of Greater Elgin Area, which offers outpatient mental health and credit counseling.
Tickets are $50 and the event includes hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, dessert and live music with the Moods, which specializes in Motown classics.
The fashion show begins at 6:30 p.m. and concludes with the Moods performing at 10 p.m.

Lifetime honors: After 20 years of being a member of the Algonquin Lioness Club, Barbara Keefer was honored with the group's Lifetime Achievement Award for her years of service both to the group and in the community.
Keefer lives in Algonquin and received the honor earlier this month.
She's the first lioness to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in the district that covers Algonquin.
Lions District 1-J, with 94 Lions, Lioness and Leo clubs, is the largest in Illinois.
Chartered in 1986, the Lioness club meets every month at Port Edward Restaurant.

Get those running shoes on: The Village of Pingree Grove and the Northern Kane Educational Corporation, which runs the Cambridge Lakes Charter School, are organizing a 5K run/walk, scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday May 22.
It costs $15 to run and the race is open to all ages.
