Brouwer struggles with his confidence
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Troy Brouwer survived to play another day on Thursday despite a miserable showing in the Blackhawks' Game 3 loss when he was minus-1 with 1 shot and no hits in just seven minutes of ice time.
Brouwer admitted he has struggled putting aside the turnover in Game 1 that resulted in Nashville's second goal in its third-period comeback win.
"The first part of the first game I thought I was playing really well, skating well and finishing all my checks, then I had that turnover and lost a little bit of confidence," Brouwer said. "For me, it's been a little bit hard recovering from that turnover. I feel I let my teammates down and that's been more my issue rather than having that week off right before playoffs."
Brouwer was the Hawks' best power forward during the regular season with 22 goals and 189 hits, which ranked third on the team behind Dustin Byfuglien (215) and Brent Seabrook (208).
Brouwer had 9 hits in the first two games of the series before his zero in Game 3.
"I just have to get back on the body," Brouwer said. "I had no hits last game and that's unacceptable on my part. Skill may not win this series; it might be the grit and the gritty players."
Hawks coach Joel Quenneville moved Ben Eager and Colin Fraser out of the lineup for Game 4 but stayed with Brouwer.
"Brouw can be better," Quenneville said. "He missed the last little part of the year there, but he's still an important player for us and can add something to our game. We just need him to get himself back in the game physically and to be more predictable going up and down the rink."
Check please: Brian Campbell expected to have his shoulder and collarbone tested early and often by the Predators in his first game since March 14, when he broke his clavicle getting shoved into the boards by Washington's Alex Ovechkin.
"It's playoff hockey so it's going to happen," Campbell said. "I've been around long enough and played a lot of games. There's a reason why I've played that many games, because I protect myself out there. The shoulder is starting to feel real good so I don't expect that to be a problem."
Campbell was projected to miss 7-8 weeks but came back in a little under six.
Campbell replaced Jordan Hendry in the lineup and was paired mostly with Niklas Hjalmarsson.
Still out: Patric Hornqvist, Nashville's leading scorer during the regular season, missed his third straight game (upper body).
