St. Theresa student gets to be Mayor for a Day
Katie Lindert, a fourth-grade student at St. Theresa School in Palatine, was the winner of a Mayor for a Day auction held in conjunction with the Palatine High School VIP Booster Club's 26th annual Dinner Dance and Auction on Feb. 26.
As part of her prize, Katie and her friends ate lunch with Mayor Jim Schwantz in the school gymnasium, and then she and the fourth-grade classes walked from school to village hall, where they toured the police department and council chambers and learned about the structure and function of government.
She helped lead the beginning of Monday's village council meeting, and was given her own gavel from Schwantz. She also stood with Police Chief John Koziol as Schwantz read a proclamation for National Police Week.
