Car plows into dugout at Schamburg ballfields
A driver took an unexpected detour Thursday afternoon, ending up in the first base dugout area at a ballfield in Campanelli Park in Schaumburg.
The driver, whose identity was not immediately available, was traveling north about 4 p.m. on South Braintree Drive at West Weathersfield Way when his car left the road, according to Batallion Chief Rick Anderson of the Schaumburg Fire Department.
The car struck a tree, took out an outhouse and plowed into the fence of the first base dugout area before coming to rest at a 45-degree angle on the bench
Anderson said the driver reported passing out but was alert and out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived. He was the only occupant in the car and did not require medical attention.
There was no game being played at the time. No other injuries were reported, Anderson said.
The ballfield was closed for the day due to damage to the dugout.
Police were investigating the accident Thursday evening, and further details were not available.
