Swimmers invited to join Algonquin team this summer

The Trails Swim Team of Algonquin invites boys and girls ages 6 to 18 to become a part of their competitive summer swim club. Swimmers, age 6 to 8, are eligible to join the team if they are able to swim one length of the pool (25 meters) without stopping. Older swimmers must be able to swim at least two lengths of the pool.

An experienced and highly regarded coaching staff will help swimmers with stroke technique as well as conditioning. Practices are conducted weekdays, beginning May 24 through July at the Lions Armstrong Memorial Pool, 599 Longwood Drive in Algonquin. Meets are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings; occasionally on Saturdays. This nonprofit organization relies on parental involvement; parents must work a portion of every home meet and help out in a variety of other ways.

Open registration continues from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 19 at the fire station, at Algonquin and Pyott roads. Registration is limited and handled on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost to join includes a team fee of $195 for the first and second child and is reduced $10 for each additional child. Plus a $50 per family fee to purchase 10 discount merchant cards, a mandatory team fundraiser. These cards may be resold to neighbors and friends. Purchase of apparel is not required; however items to try on and order will be available at open registration. Fees for apparel vary and are due when the order is placed.
