Pfeiffer, Barrington to play for title at Toyota

One clutch shot produced a golden goal - and a trip to Toyota Park.

That was the reward for the Barrington girls soccer team Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Molly Pfeiffer made it happen in the the second overtime, when her goal gave Barrington a 2-1 victory over Loyola Academy in the Pepsi Showdown semifinals at Olympic Park in Schaumburg.

The Fillies (10-1-1) earned a match with Glenbrook South today at noon for the championship at Toyota Park.

Glenbrook South defeated New Trier 3-2, prevailing 4-2 on shootout kicks in the other semifinal.

"It's cool to play at Toyota Park," Pfeiffer said. "I've seen professional games there and I'm excited to actually be able to play down there."

Pfeiffer scored the big goal in the 98th minute, taking the ball from Dana Kopp off a wind-blown bounce and scoring.

"The ball ricocheted off Dana), I was able to get it and stuck it in," said Pfeiffer, who has 4 goals this season. "I saw the ball go right into the back corner. First half we were against the wind. Once at halftime, we were told to settle things down. Second half with the wind, it was much easier and we calmed down. We just wanted the next shot, the next goal and everybody wanted it."

Pfeiffer also set up the first Fillies goal scored by Emily Hyde.

"This is a big win for us," said Fillies coach Ryan Stengren. "For the girls, we've never had the opportunity to play there. It should be a great experience for them."
