Harper drops pair

Harper (6-13-1) ran into a hungry bunch of Wolves on Saturday.

The host Hawks dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Joliet Junior College Wolves (21-17-1), falling 16-1 and 16-8 in North Central Community College Conference action.

In the opener, Hawks starter George Heller (Burlington Central) pitched 6 innings. Hiller struck out three, walked one and hit a batter.

Joliet took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in the third.

Then the wheels fell off for the Hawks pitching staff. In the sixth, Hiller gave up 4 runs. Matt Eleazar replaced Heller in the seventh and gave up 7 runs.

Game 2 started out better for freshman pitcher Kevin Becker (Palatine). The Hawks led 3-0 after one inning and added a pair of runs in the third thanks to a double by Dan Laria (Rolling Meadows) and a sacrifice fly by Michael Mather.

Becker pitched 32/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts.

The Hawks scored again in the eighth inning when Heller hit a solo homer.

But the Wolves rallied with a vengeance to earn the victory.
