Drugs part of money-making ploy

I see this change as a first step in a very long line of reforms that need to occur. Not only should everyone have access to medical care, but the people providing medical care need to change the model of care and their attitudes.

Many have completely forgotten they are public servants. When I was pregnant with my son four years ago, I experienced first hand how backwards the health care system is in this country. It serves to make doctors and health insurance companies money, regardless if the care they are providing is appropriate or wanted.

For example, a pregnant person is expected to report to a group of surgeons and submit to their list of unnecessary and harmful procedures, when the model of care should be something closer to seeking the care of a midwife or other health care provider of the woman's choice, with a surgeon available should there be a rare emergency.

For routine visits, they are quick to give you a prescription for antibiotics (or watch TV some night for a whole list of other things they can prescribe to you), yet don't even ask if you are using synthetic chemicals, such as fertilizers, around your home. That's because drugs are part of the money-making scheme. And when you get cancer, they make lots more money.
