S. Barrington school pays tribute to Bill Rose
Students, staff and families at Barbara B. Rose School paid tribute to Bill Rose Wednesday morning, as his funeral cortege passed the South Barrington school named for Mr. Rose's late first wife.
Students held banners and posters in honor of the man regarded by some as the "father" of South Barrington for his work to get the village organized before its 1959 incorporation.
"When Mr. Rose's wife and daughter heard that we were going to do this, they thought it would be wonderful and were very touched," Principal Scott Carlson said.
The cortege passed the school on its way to Davenport Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St., Barrington, where visitation for Mr. Rose will be held from 3-9 p.m. today. A 10:30 a.m. funeral will be held Thursday at the Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 S. Brinker Road in Barrington Hills.
Mr. Rose, 83, was CEO of Rose Packing in Barrington and Chicago, and founded the Millrose Restaurant in South Barrington. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; as well as his children Peter (Zofia), Susan (James) Vandenbergh and Michael; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
