Meet 'The Tomato Lady'
Local vegetable gardeners are invited to meet tomato expert Aggie Nehmzow, known as "The Tomato Lady." Nehmzow grows 75 varieties of heirloom tomatoes in her backyard and will give guests tips on growing tomatoes in all shapes, colors and flavors.

Exploring Native American culture
The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian's "Raising the Totem: Exploring Northwest Coast Indigenous Cultures" exhibit focuses on the culture of Native Americans of the Northwest coast. Fifty objects, including cedar masks, totem pole molds, baskets and other items will be on display, along with historical photos.

Quilts galore - and more!
The annual spring International Quilt Festival/Chicago attracts an estimated 20,000 quilt artists and collectors. The fest features more than 7,000 quilts, textiles and wearable art on display. Other highlights include classes, lectures and vendors with 500 booths of quilts, fabrics, books, notions, crafts, machines and supplies.
Preview night will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 15. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, 5555 N. River Road, Rosemont. Admission is $8-$10. Children ages 10 and younger admitted free with a paying adult. Bowl for Paws

Time for a haircut
Watch as the sheep at West Chicago's Kline Creek Farm lose their winter coats in the sheepshearing event. Both modern and old-fashioned methods will be used for the shearing, including 100-year-old hand-cranked shears. See what happens when the wool is scoured, carded and spun into yarn. Guests can also observe as demonstrator John Seraphine's border collies herd and move sheep from pasture to pasture.
