Vanguard School raises funds

Vanguard School in Arlington Heights raised more than $220 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in the annual "Pennies for Patients" campaign. Eleven team collection boxes were on display throughout March in the vending area, and teacher Megan McCann's homeroom won a pasta lunch by knocking out all the other teams in the competition.

"My team was dedicated not only to the fundraising aspect, but really learned more about the cause as well," said McCann. Senior Bobby Isaacson thought it was fun. "I put money in the collection boxes every day and it made me feel good," he said.

Teacher Natalie DeMeo said their next challenge will be the Jim Gibbons Walk in June, another fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma. "It is a cause close to the hearts of students and staff at Vanguard School," she added. Vanguard is one of District 214's alternative schools.
