Centegra to open breast center in Crystal Lake

Centegra Health System announced Thursday that a $500,000 gift will help open a new breast care center in Crystal Lake.

The Centegra Gavers Breast Center will offer patients with abnormal mammograms a full continuum of follow-up diagnostics, required care, and social and emotional support.

The center will open this fall in what is now the Crystal Lake Imaging Center.

Screening will continue to be offered at various locations throughout McHenry County, while the breast center will coordinate related health services.

In 2008, Centegra Health System submitted a request with the state to build a women's center in Woodstock. The economic downturn has put that project on hold, but the breast center which was part of that plan will go forward.
