Historic group looking for preservation craftspeople

May is the target month for completion of a local resource list of preservation specialists. Each May, Americans celebrate Historic Preservation Month. In McHenry County, local historical societies and preservation commissions which form the McHenry County Joint Council Historic Groups promote it as "Look at Local History" month. Area governmental bodies prepare local resolutions recognizing the importance of historic preservation. Various groups host cemetery tours, house walks, special exhibits along with other public programs.

This year for "Look at Local History" Month the McHenry County Joint Council of Historic Groups plans on publishing a resource list of local preservation craftspeople. Experienced carpenters, masons, plasterers, roofers, building movers, barn restorers and interior designers interested in being listed in this resource are asked to contact Joint Council member Barbara Conley at barbconley1@sbcglobal.net or P.O. Box 576, Huntley, IL 60142.

While there is no charge for the listing, participants need to supply two project references. All information must be received by Saturday, April 10.

For information on the Joint Council of Historic Groups and its meetings, call Gloria Mack from the McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission at (815) 363-1058 or Nancy Fike at the McHenry County Historical Society at (815) 923-2267.
