Upset over firing of Vince Ramirez

I am very upset by the sudden firing of Dstrict 57 former employee Vince Ramirez. Both of my children were students in that district and they both knew Mr. Ramirez. If there were problems with the bus, if any student was being harassed on the bus, they knew that Mr. Ramirez would take care of these issues. If a driver could not drive their route, my children were safely brought home by Mr. Ramirez.

He was put in an unfortunate position by having an alcoholic employee and he was trying to evaluate whether or not this person had a problem, unlike our current school board who almost hired a superintendent with a documented drinking problem. Did our board members all resign over that?

I do not condone anyone drinking and driving - not only were our schoolchildren at risk, but so is everyone else on the road. District 57 might need to have better policies and procedures in place to ensure that all of their drivers are drug and alcohol free, but that is their job as employers.

Firing an employee of 15 years with a good work record of ensuring the safety of our children and his drivers is not the answer. Even though my children are now in college and no longer in grammar school, I am a taxpayer in District 57 and I am not happy with their decision.
