Likes Lake Park's new class schedule
I am a senior at Conant High School who recently read your article on Lake Park High School restructuring their class schedule during the school day.
I feel it is a very good idea to do so. The most important thing is the added time for tutoring and meeting with counselors; a possible 48 minutes.
With the schedules of today's students, the extra time will help most kids finish homework even if they do not need the extra help or have any other things they need to get done.
The new schedule will also eliminate a hassle for some advanced classes. Some of the advanced classes take up two periods of the day. These classes break half way through the lesson for lunch. With the new program, kids will keep the streaming learning going and not be interrupted.
I also think it's a good thing to keep the early start option available. Many kids may want to take an extra class during the day for fun, which will make the school day that much more enjoyable for that student if they choose to take another class.
Lastly, the consequence to pay is minimal. The overall change is making the school day 10 minutes longer. That is no unbearable amount of time for any student, especially one that needs help.
Nobody is going to complain a whole lot, and soon everyone will get used to it and forget there was even an old schedule.
