Feece, Vernon Hills fleece Anna-Jonesboro

Freshman Tyler Feece got the call for Vernon Hills' baseball team, and he did not disappoint in his varsity debut.

Feece pitched 6 scoreless innings to help the Cougars to a 5-0 win over Anna-Jonesboro on Thursday.

Feece showed his competitiveness in the sixth inning when the first two batters he faced reached base via a double and error. He responded by striking out the next two hitters and getting the final out on a groundball to Scott Kempel at third base.

Cesar Gallegos pitched the final inning, allowing no runs.

The Cougars go the only run that they would need in the first inning when Chris Marras reached on a single. Courtesy runner Ryan Knopoff reached second on an errant throw and raced to third on a wild pitch. Zach Kisley then scored him on a deep sacrifice fly to center field.

Brian Palmer plated a run as did Chris Argianas in the second. Chris Marras drove in the final run in the sixth on a double to right-center.

Stevenson 7, Crystal Lake South 6: The host Patriots blew a 6-0 lead but scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on Alex Daar's base hit to stay undefeated.

Stevenson (5-0) got 4-for-4 efforts from both Daar and Mike Martin. Erick King and Pat Wilson had doubles.

Blake Fiedelman earned his first win, pitching 4 2/3 innings in relief and allowing only 1 run. He struck out seven.
