Schaumburg library looking for new teen advisers
Library looks for teen advisers: For the last few years, the Schaumburg Township District Library board has relied on a couple of student advisory trustees for insight on issues important to teens.
The time to find new teen advisers is approaching, and applications became available Thursday in the teen areas of all three library locations in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park.
Those who are accepted will actually participate in local government by attending board meetings and providing ideas of how the library can better serve young people.
The term will begin Wednesday, Sept. 1, and end Aug. 1, 2011. Student advisory trustees will be required to attend library board meetings and occasional programs, then provide written feedback to their board and staff liaisons.
Young people ages 15 to 20 with current Schaumburg Township District Library cards are invited to apply. Applications are due by Wednesday, June 30.
Applicants must also attend a board meeting for one hour on either Monday, April 19, (at the Hoffman Estates branch), Monday, May 17, or Monday, June 21 (at the Schaumburg location) and submit their findings and ideas.
For an e-mail application, write to teenservices@stdl.org, or call (847) 923-3191 for more information.
In appreciation for their work on the board, student advisory trustees will receive a library card free of fines during their term and a gift certificate to the library cafe.
