Grateful that Dist. 21 teachers stepped up
I am a parent who has two children that attend schools in Community Consolidated District 21.
I would like to wholeheartedly thank all of the teachers and their negotiators for having the courage to make a sacrifice for our children who attend District 21 schools.
These are very difficult times for everyone, especially school districts. Class sizes are increasing, State funding is diminishing, sports and band programs are in jeopardy and there is a constant threat of layoffs.
Our teachers, through concessions, were successful in saving District 21 a great deal of money. As a result, class sizes will remain in line and the board was able to avoid the consideration of closing a school. There also seems to be a hold on the cutting of certain programs within our district.
I understand the importance of a quality education and the people who work very hard to accomplish that for our children. Thank you for stepping up.
