Benson: Ramirez is Dist. 57's scapegoat

In my 10 years and three terms as president of the District 57 school board I experienced the dedication and commitment Transportation Coordinator Vince Ramirez brought to his job on a recurring basis.

Those with 20-20 hindsight saw fit to ignore his outstanding contributions over many years, instead choosing to dismiss him based on a single, regrettable incident.

Media reports state that Ramirez did not receive the training necessary for him to recognize an inebriated driver. Who is responsible for THAT oversight? What action will be taken to address THAT incursion within District 57?

Ramirez is the scapegoat in this unfortunate situation. Affixing blame solely on him is convenient, but misguided. District 57 administrators and its school board are equally responsible and should also be held accountable for their poor handling of this incident.
