Bond set at $1.5 million for suspects in Carpentersville home invasion
Bond was set at $1.5 million Friday for two men accused of breaking into a Carpentersville home in February, tying up the homeowners and kidnapping their 5-year-old daughter while driving to an ATM to drain the victims' bank accounts.
Antonio E. Espino, 22, of the 1500 block of Crimson Lane, Palatine, and Brian Norbut, 22, of the 800 block of Dorman Drive, Streamwood, each must post $150,000 to go free while awaiting trial on nine felony charges apiece, such as home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery and vehicular hijacking, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
The most serious charges carry a mandatory six- to 30-year prison term.
In the Feb. 1 incident, the pair are accused of forcing their way into a home in the 40000 block of Stratford Lane wearing ski masks and armed with a baseball bat and an "authentic looking BB gun," court documents state.
The pair is accused of driving with the girl to a cash machine, making a withdrawal and later returning the girl home.
No injuries were reported.
They also are accused of stealing gift cards, a television, camera equipment and $840, according to court records.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office spokesman said more charges are pending against the two men.
Authorities also suspect the pair in other crimes following the same pattern.
In one of those incidents, two men brandished a gun at a 53-year-old woman who was driving her car about 3 a.m. on Feb. 5 on the 1900 block of Evening Song Court in Schaumburg, police said.
They drove her around and tried to take money from an ATM before abandoning the woman and her vehicle nearby, police said.
The two also are suspected of robbing a store clerk at gunpoint March 11 in the 800 block of Golf Road in Schaumburg, police said.
Police reported no injuries during either incident.
