A stamp honoring Good Friday?
The recent decision by our president to endorse the beautiful butterfly Muslim stamp doesn't merit the outcry it's receiving from conservatives in America. The president has every Constitutional right under the First Amendment to do so.
The Free Exercise Clause of this amendment allows for free speech about religion in America; its correlative clause, The Establishment of Religion, warns against any usage of religion which would affirm a national church or religion. I don't believe a 44-cent stamp signals the beginning of a National Mosque in America.
However, I propose that our president also issue a stamp with a Star of David and wine glasses commemorating the beginning of Passover. Or, a stamp with a cross commemorating Good Friday. Remember when you could still say Good Friday?
The liberal project in America has always confused constitutionality with worship at the altar of the victim. As long as you can perpetuate your victimization, you'll be a poster child for our hand-wringing liberal friends. As long as Christianity and Judaism are perceived as having had their day, don't look any time soon for this administration to affirm their presence in America with a federal stamp.
Speaking of the marginalized, I wonder if a stamp for the voiceless minority of America's aborted babies is in the works.
