Man killed in single-car crash on tollway in Lisle

A 20-year-old Woodridge man was killed early Friday morning in Lisle when his car struck a bridge support post and burst into flames.

John David Katrenak was traveling east on Ogden Avenue about 2 a.m. when the car he was driving veered off the road and crashed into the bridge support for the Reagan Memorial Tollway, authorities said.

When police arrived they found the front of the car, including the front seat, engulfed in flames, authorities said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found Katrenak inside the car. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Katrenak was pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m. at the scene.

DuPage County Coroner officials said preliminary autopsy results show Katrenak died from "multiple traumatic injuries."

Lisle police are investigating to determine what caused Katrenak's car to leave the road. They said they don't know how fast the car was traveling at the time of the accident.
