Coroner says no trauma signs on body found in Fox Lake

Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said a preliminary examination indicates no signs of trauma to the body of an unidentified woman discovered Thursday in Fox Lake.

Police said a passer-by found the woman's body at about 1 p.m. Thursday in some brush about 25 feet from the Rollins Road bike path near Ridgeland Road. The path is near tracks owned by the Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission. The woman looked to be in her late 30s or early 40s, and police believe she might be a Fox Lake resident reported missing in late December.

Keller said the woman's body showed significant signs of decomposition. He said checks will be made of missing-persons reports as part of an effort to identify the her.

"We'll likely bring in our forensic dentist to look at the body we have," Keller added.

Keller said there were no indications of trauma on the body "on the first look" by the coroner's office. He said the woman may have been in the brush for more than a month.

Fox Lake Lt. Joe Gliniewicz said the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force has been called in to assist in the investigation.
