Two hurt in crash near Woodfield

The minivan driver hurt in a Monday morning accident near Woodfield Shopping Center had to be cut out of the vehicle but by late afternoon was no longer thought to have life-threatening injuries, police said.

Paramedics took the male minivan driver and the driver of a truck to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said. Their identifications weren't immediately available. Police originally said the minivan driver suffered life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened at 11:25 a.m. The van, a Plymouth Voyager, was motoring east on Higgins Road, while the truck, which had "Hogan leasing/rentals" written on it, was traveling west on Higgins Road. The truck tried to turn left to southbound Meacham.

Nebl said police are investigating a possible red-light violation, but aren't sure which vehicle went through the light. Citations haven't been issued, but are expected, Nebl added.

After the accident, fire department crews had to remove the van's driver's side door and cut the steering wheel to rescue the trapped driver.

The corner is southwest of the Woodfield Shopping Center, just west of the Streets of Woodfield mall. The intersection never had a red-light camera. Schaumburg officials last year removed the village's last red-light camera at Meacham and Woodfield roads, north of where the accident happened.
