Religious beliefs not part of story

A recent Associated Press story reported that the missionaries in Haiti received legal advice from Jorge Puello, "a Jew from the Dominican Republic." What is the relevance of identifying this man's religious beliefs in the context of this story? Should we expect all stories about the people in Haiti to now identify everyone's religion? Or all stories regarding those who give legal advice?

Many baseball players hail from the Dominican Republic. Going forward, will we be treated to their religious affiliations?

I wish the missionaries trapped in Haiti the very best. I just hope they are not contacted by a banker who might be "a Jew from New York."
