Citizens fire academyThe Bensenville Fire Protection District is taking applications for its first-ever Citizens Fire and Police Academy. Through hands-on and classroom training, participants will take part in such real-life drills as vehicle extrication, search and rescue operations and fire extinguisher training. The class is limited to 12 people who must be residents of the fire district or working full time in Bensenville. Classes start March 11 and will be held for 10 weeks on Thursday nights. Anyone seeing a coyote in Wheaton, can visit wheaton.il.us/coyote and fill in the requested information. The Web site form shouldn't be used to report emergency situations. In those instances, call 911. For more information about coyotes, see the coyote information section on the city's Web site.Filmmaker to speak at CantignyIndependent filmmaker JD Johannes is scheduled to speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night on "A Changing Battlefield: The Evolution of Counterinsurgency in Iraq" when he visits the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton. The presentation will include a briefing, photos and video from Johannes' recent 45-day embedded visit with the 1st Division's 4th Brigade in Iraq. A former Marine, Johannes is the creator and director of the "Outside the Wire" series of documentaries about the war in Iraq. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
