All of Hawks' Olympians expected to play Tuesday
When the Blackhawks resume the season on Tuesday in New York against the Islanders, their six Olympians will be in the lineup - even those involved in Sunday's gold medal game.
Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said there were no plans to rest either Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa or Tomas Kopecky on Tuesday.
"That is not on our radar screen," Quenneville said Thursday. "We're going to need them."
There seems to be a lot of concern around town of the Hawks' Olympians being tired for the stretch run and playoffs.
Quenneville doesn't share that concern.
"We'll see how they handle it later in the season, if it's a problem or not," Quenneville said. "Our guys are used to playing. I don't think anybody is playing the same minutes they are accustomed to, but at the same time there is a lot of stress and it is a very intense time. They're young guys and they're used to playing and they want to play."
With Canada playing Slovakia and the U.S. team meeting Finland in Friday's Olympic semifinals, the Hawks are assured of being represented by somebody in the gold medal game.
Toews and Keith are having huge tournaments for Canada while Hossa has starred for Slovakia.
Toews is tied for the tournament lead in points with 7 (all assists) and his plus-9 leads Team Canada. Keith has 5 assists and is plus-5.
Hossa is tied with Toews, Dany Heatley and Pavol Demitra for the tourney scoring lead with 2 goals and 5 assists while it was Kopecky scoring the winning goal for Slovakia on Wednesday night in its upset of Sweden.
"It's nice all six of our guys are trying to win a gold medal," Quenneville said. "It's exciting for them and at the end of it I think that experience we can all at some point reflect upon and use to our advantage as we go along here."
Burish eyes return: Adam Burish, out since the preseason with a torn ACL in his knee, is looking to return March 7 against Detroit.
"March 7 is probably a fair date," Burish said. "I talked to the doctors and they said I had a week and a half of practice before the break, so let's get another week and a half after it."
Tip-ins: John Madden, who missed the last two games before the break with a lower body injury, didn't practice Thursday but is expected to try it today- Brent Sopel and Ben Eager, who also went into the break nursing injures, did practice- The new Johnny's Ice House, which will be the Hawks' permanent practice facility going forward, got good reviews from the players and coaches for its ice quality. The dressing room and training rooms still aren't finished, however.
