Suspect in Crystal Lake shooting facing more charges
A Pennsylvania man accused of shooting at a relative outside a Crystal Lake restaurant last week appeared in court Wednesday facing new charges that could put him in prison for up to 30 years.
Authorities this week added armed violence and aggravated unlawful restraint charges against Sang Yong Lee, 51, who already was facing attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm charges in connection with the incident.
Armed violence is a Class X felony punishable by a mandatory six to 30 years in prison.
The new charges allege that after missing his brother-in-law with two shots, Lee, of Jamison, Penn., held his pistol against the man's head before police arrived and arrested him.
The shooting occurred about 6 p.m. Friday in the parking lot outside Kyoto Japanese Restaurant on Northwest Highway.
Lee, who now is being held in the McHenry County jail on $225,000 bond, is scheduled to return to court March 19 for a likely arraignment.
Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Mike Brichetto said police are still investigating a possible motive for the shooting.
He also said police believe they have located the dark-colored sedan spotted driving away from the scene after the shooting and its driver. Police, he said, are hoping to speak with the driver, but no charges against that person currently are pending.
