Schaumburg woman's death remains a mystery

Two and a half months after her burned body was found in a Schaumburg parking garage, the death of 32-year-old village resident Shefali Bhagwanjee remains under investigation.

The top question of whether Bhagwanjee's death was a suicide or a murder remains unresolved.

However, Schaumburg police have said since nearly the start of their investigation that the public should have no concerns about the safety of the office building parking garage at 1600 McConnor Parkway where Bhagwanjee's body and vehicle were found near one another at about 9:40 a.m. Nov. 30.

Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said that apart from the burned condition of the body and the proximity of Bhagwanjee's vehicle, he was unable to comment on any other evidence at the scene, including whether or not any container of accelerant was found.

The Cook County medical examiner's office is itself awaiting the outcome of the police investigation before it signs off on Bhagwanjee's cause of death.

According to friends, the Schaumburg woman moved to the U.S. around 2004 and worked in real estate. She was born in India and she and her husband had two sons, a toddler and a newborn.
