Our health care should be world best
The U.S. health care system must be the best in the world from all aspects: quality of care, medical research, coverage for all Americans, affordable medication, no denial of coverage due to pre-existing conditions, and selection of the type of coverage based on preference.
The U.S. health care system today is good but it does not cover everyone if you do not have health insurance. Moreover, hospice care and other long-term care is not affordable for most Americans. In comparing our health care system with Japan, Norway, Germany and many other European countries, we are far behind.
The health care reform sought by President Obama needs to be passed through Congress and Senate so we can take a very important step forward, which will bring about the necessary changes in our health care system. The bill currently on the table is a good one to start with. We can make amendments to this bill as necessary in the future. But if we let it die then we would have taken a big step backward, which will have long-term implications in the well-being of all Americans.
Health care spending will keep climbing, which will become a huge burden for our country to sustain. Moreover, this will lead to more lost jobs.
