Hawks trying to get their power play back on track

Make it six games without a power-play goal, which isn't sitting well with Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville.

The Hawks were 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Dallas at the United Center and are 0-for-19 since their last power-play goal at Edmonton during their eight-game road trip.

"Not very good," Quenneville told reporters. "It's an area where we need some production. Going five or six games without a goal can really slow down your offense and momentum in games.

"We want to go into the (Olympic) break getting this power play going. We know it can be the difference-maker on a lot of these nights. It can separate a close game and break it open for us. This has gone on long enough. We are due for something good to happen."

Like a lot of teams, the Hawks are eager for the Olympic break to catch their breath after playing such a condensed schedule because of the league's participation in the Vancouver Games.

"It's going to be a good thing for guys battling injuries to get away from the rink," defenseman Brian Campbell said. "It's a lot of hockey that we've played so far in an Olympic year. Obviously we've got a few guys going to the Olympics, and I know from in the past those guys come back a little tired, so us guys that have the time off are going to have to really pick it up for them."

Shutting down: Ben Eager likely won't play again until after the Olympic break because of the lower-body injury that has forced him to miss the last two games.

Eager hasn't skated since suffering the injury against Phoenix on Friday.

John Madden will miss games this weekend against Atlanta and Columbus after suffering a lower-body injury against the Stars.

Stars make trade: Dallas made a trade in the middle of Tuesday's game, acquiring goalie Kari Lehtonen from the Atlanta Thrashers for defenseman prospect Ivan Vishnevsky and a fourth-round draft pick.

The acquisition of Lehtonen would appear to indicate the Stars are ready to deal veteran Marty Turco before the March 3 trade deadline. Turco, who started against the Hawks, will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and has been rumored to be going to Philadelphia.

Tip-ins: Chants of "To-ny, To-ny" rang down from the rafters on Tony Esposito Heritage Night. - Despite the snow, 21,446 showed up at the United Center to give the Hawks their 80th consecutive sellout. - Colin Fraser returned to the game after leaving briefly with a minor injury.
