Save on kids' clothes at new Lake in the Hills resale shop

In a time when budgets are tight, there is a new clothing store along Randall Road that can help your dollars go further when shopping for your children.

Owner Maria Ammon and Beatrice Bozeki opened the resale shop Kids 2nd Wardrobe in Lake in the Hills, just off Randall Road a few months ago.

And so far, Ammon said, it's been quite popular with families looking for a good deal on stylish clothes.

"I think definitely people need a reasonable price because the economy is bad and they have to find ways to save," she said. "They were looking for something like this."

At this time of year, the owners are busy filling their store with spring and summer clothing, including popular Easter dresses.

The store sells items for both boys and girls, from infants through teenagers.

People come in with their bags of clothes, and the owners give them an offer for their merchandise. It is not a consignment shop, and instead the items are bought outright, Ammon said.

The business pays cash or check, depending on the amount they're paying, she said.

And then the store takes the clothes and resells them to parents looking for a good deal on clothes for their children.

The biggest sellers in clothes are Gymboree, Gap, and any kind of stylish jeans or fancy dress, Ammon said.

"It's a lot of brand name clothing too," she said.

"We have pretty much everything - tights, socks, all types of clothing," Ammon said.

In addition to clothing, they also have many, many kids items including changing tables, toys, shoes - including dance shoes, furniture and playpens.

While parents are browsing the selection, Ammon said their children often enjoy hanging out in the kids corner, which has a television to watch and games to play while the parents are shopping.

The store is open at 61 Polaris Drive. For information call (224) 678-9274.

More closings: Several businesses along the Randall Road corridor have closed over the past several months due to impacts from the economy.

Two more to leave the corridor are Ethan Allen in Algonquin, and just across the road from the furniture store is an empty building where IHOP used to serve up pancakes all day long.
