Streamwood upends South Elgin

Emma Schmidt scored 26 points and Michelle Tomczak added 18 points and 11 rebounds as Streamwood downed South Elgin 61-54 in an Upstate Eight Conference girls basketball game in Streamwood Friday night.

The Sabres jumped out to a 30-20 halftime lead and never trailed in the second half to secure the victory.

"Defense won the game tonight," Streamwood coach George Rosner said. "The passing was excellent. We ran when it was there."

Streamwood (9-16, 2-6) also got 11 points from Jessica Cerda, who nailed a 3-pointer to help the Sabres take a 42-36 lead going into the fourth quarter.

South Elgin (9-14, 2-7) was led by 16 points from Becca Smith and 12 points from Alyssa Krause.

"We didn't rebound," Storm coach Tim Prendergast said. " You're not going to win a lot of games if you don't rebound."
