Kramer is Kane GOP sheriff's nominee after Russell concedes

Don Kramer will be the Republican nominee for Kane County sheriff in the November election, now that his primary opponent, Rob Russell, conceded the race in which the two came within hundreds of votes.

Russell issued a statement Friday congratulating Kramer on his victory and pledging his support to him.

Russell, of South Elgin, said Kramer ran "a clean and issues-based campaign and I wish him success in the election. Between him and his father, George (past sheriff of Kane Co), there has been almost 50 years of public service to the citizens of Kane County, so I believe the Kramer family needs to be commended for that."

Russell also thanked his supporters, as well as his wife and children for all of their help during the campaign.

Kramer, a Geneva resident who recently retired from the sheriff's department, will face his former boss, Sheriff Pat Perez, in November. Perez ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
