Cary man indicted on possession of child porn
A Cary man previously convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor pleaded not guilty Friday to charges he possessed at least 10 images of child pornography on his computer.
Christoper R. Brown, 34, of the 0-100 block of Bright Oaks Circle, asked for a jury trial on the 10-count child pornography indictment issued by a McHenry County grand jury this week.
The allegations arose in October when Cary police arrested Brown on a charge of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender. After the arrest, police said they developed information that illegal material might be on his computer, something they said was confirmed by a forensic examination.
Brown initially was charged with 104 counts of child pornography last month, but prosecutors opted to bring just 10 before a grand jury. He would face a maximum two to five years in prison regardless.
Indiana state records show Brown was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor in July 2006. He received a five-year prison sentence and was paroled in March, records state.
Brown remains in custody at the McHenry County jail on $80,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court March 2 for a pretrial status hearing.
