Jets' Sanchez might have surgery
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez might have surgery this off-season to stabilize the patella ligament in his left knee, which was injured during college.
General manager Mike Tannenbaum said Sanchez would be ready "well before training camp" if he elects to have the procedure, which isn't consider major, but he could miss early off-season workouts. Sanchez dislocated the kneecap during his junior season at Southern California.
Broncos promote Martindale: Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels promoted linebackers coach Don Martindale to defensive coordinator, replacing Mike Nolan, who left for a similar job with the Miami Dolphins.
Martindale, 46, joined McDaniels' staff last season after spending five years in that same role with the Oakland Raiders. Martindale is the Broncos' fifth defensive coordinator in five seasons.
Chiefs' coaching moves: The Kansas City Chiefs won't be bringing back defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast, tight ends coach Bob Bicknell and wide receivers coach Dedric Ward next season.
Pendergast was hired as defensive coordinator last year only because Romeo Crennel wasn't available. Crennel accepted that job earlier this month.
