Dist. 54 residents should dump Bassi
I haven't written to the Daily Herald in a long time, but I am doing so now because the upcoming primary election, on Feb. 2 is incredibly important. Despite the fact that Illinois has an abundance of natural resources and a citizenry famous for its Midwestern work ethic, Illinois ranks 48th in the nation for economic performance.
We are facing a deficit that some predict to hit $11 billion next year and with new business declining to locate to Illinois there is no relief in sight. Unfortunately, there are not many candidates on the ballot in whom we can have confidence.
However, there is one that residents of the 54th district should be aware of.
Tom Morrison is a candidate we can enthusiastically support. He is exactly the kind of man we need in Springfield. Tom is a fiscal and social conservative. He is young, energetic, independent and not afraid to buck the Republican Party establishment when it's the right thing to do. He is a man of character and integrity who will not compromise core conservative values-because he really believes in them.
Tom has walked over 70 percent of our district since October.
He has been ringing our doorbells and hearing our concerns. You may have met or talked with him already.
He has received the endorsement of 85 percent of local Republican precinct captains, the political arm of the National Taxpayers United of Illinois, Family PAC, Illinois Citizens for Life and Illinois Federation of Right to Life.
Contrast that with six-term incumbent Suzie Bassi, who has had her chance and proven herself to be ineffective against the establishment that has run Illinois into the ground. Tom Morrison is the only choice for citizens who want real change in Illinois government.
