Firefighter slightly injured in Crystal Lake blaze

A firefighter was slightly injured in a garage fire in Crystal Lake Monday, officials said.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 4000 block of Wilderness Ridge Drive and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage of the two-story home shortly before noon, officials from the Crystal Lake Fire Department said.

A resident was home at the time the fire broke out, but he escaped without injury, officials said.

A Crystal Lake firefighter was injured, but was treated and released from an area hospital, officials said.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in about 10 minutes, officials said.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Crystal Lake Fire Department called for assistance from Woodstock, Huntley, Nunda Rural, Lakewood and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills fire departments.
