Michaels to debut new Schaumburg store

Arts and crafts giant Michaels announced the grand opening of its newest store at 1420 E. Golf Road in Schaumburg.

The new store, featuring the company's new design, will replace the older Hoffman Estates location at 26 West Golf Road in Golf Center.

The Schaumburg store, set to open Sunday, Jan. 31, is one of the first stores in the country to feature a new store design, said store manager Bob Brejila. The new store features an open, uncluttered look with wider aisles, warm colors and brighter lighting.

Popular departments, including jewelry, scrapbooking and kids have been expanded and reorganized. For example, the new jewelry department has more than 6,000 different styles of open stock, pre-strung and packaged beads.

And the custom framing department has changed with an open-style work area that encourages hands-on experience.

The new store opens at 10 a.m. on opening day with activities beginning at 11 a.m. Events include a prize wheel, craft demonstrations and a free Crayola craft for children.
