For Democrats, Bean all but nominated

There is a Democratic Party primary race in the 8th Congressional District although it may not be obvious when checking the ballot.

The only name voters will see is that of incumbent Melissa Bean of Barrington. But computer consultant Jonathan Farnick of Woodstock is running as a write-in candidate after he was ruled off the ballot because of insufficient signatures on his nominating petitions.

Despite his good intentions, it is clear Farnick has been unable to wage a campaign with enough heft to make it competitive or to prompt us to seriously consider his candidacy for endorsement. His write-in bid provides a good outlet for Democratic voters wishing to send Bean a message of dissatisfaction, but nothing more.
