Naperville teen wins national photo competition

A Naperville teen has won a national photo competition for a picture he took last fall at a high school football game.

The picture taken by Casey Berner, 19, received the most online votes in the Adult Action category in Canon's "Why Do You Love Football Amateur Photo Contest." The contest received about 9,000 entries from across the country.

He will receive two tickets to Super Bowl XLIV in Miami and will have his photo displayed for one year at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Berner's shot was named one of seven finalists in the category in December. The photo was taken during an Oct. 2 football game between Naperville Central High School and its rival, Naperville North. In it, a Central ball carrier is met by a North defender midair and a second defender is in the background having just missed the tackle.

Berner is beginning his second semester at University of Missouri, where he majors in both photojournalism and business.
