Officials await dental records in Wheaton fatal fire

Officials said Sunday that they still are waiting on dental records to help identify a Wheaton man killed in an early Saturday morning apartment fire.

The man died in a blaze around 1:10 a.m. Saturday on the 1700 block of 22nd Street. The coroner's office said Sunday that once the dental records are received, identification should prove to be a quick matter.

Firefighters helped several occupants escape the building and two were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The unidentified man, who police say they believe to be in his 20s, could not get out.

The Wheaton Fire Department, Wheaton Police Department and DuPage Fire Investigation Task Force continue to investigate the cause of the fire and damage estimates.
