Milk truck rolls over on Route 53 after collision

A milk truck rolled over on Route 53 Saturday morning after a collision with another vehicle.

Illinois State Police reported that Daniel Heidtke, 22, of Deer Park, was heading south in a Toyota Highlander on Route 53 near Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows at about 8 a.m. when he swerved right to try to make an exit.

A Mazda 6 in the center lane veered right to avoid the Highlander and then clipped an MT Dairy Service milk truck driven by Ronald Thompson, 50, of Addison. Those two vehicles spun left and hit the center median, where the truck overturned, authorities said.

Thompson was treated for injuries that were "not life-threatening" and was not hospitalized, according to the state police. Heidtke was ticketed for improper lane usage.

MT Dairy is based in Chicago.
